Some Possible College Coaching Senarios

With the end of the season comes firings, and so the carousal begins.  With UCLA, Arizona State, and other head coaching jobs open, rumors abound.  June Jones of SMU is rumored to be possibly interested in the ASU job after Dennis Erickson was fired.  Let's say he does take the job, which would make sense by the way, who would come coach the Ponies?

I think SMU should consider UT's OC Bryan Harsin.  Coach Harsin has only been with UT for one season, but was with Boise State for 10 years as an assistant, with the his last five years as the offensive coordinator.  He is up an coming assistant and someone will take a shot at him.  He is a very creative offensive mind and if he surrounds himself with good experienced coaches, he cold take SMU to the next level. I am not saying it is time for Coach Jones to leave, but it does make all the sense in the world for him to want to go to a program that is in a conference that can compete for a national title.  Conference USA does not have the same luxury as the PAC12.  Yes, I know SMU is suppose to leave C-USA and go to the Big East, but with all the turmoil going on there, why take a chance.

As for UCLA, well, Houston's coach, Kevin Sumlin is the hot name linked to their opening.  I think he would be a very good fit for UCLA.  He would bring a high powered offense to the PAC12, very similar to Oregon.  Coach Sumlin would certainly have good athletes to recruit from in California to fill in the holes for the Bruins.   With a solid offensive scheme and better talent, UCLA would put themselves in a situation where they can compete for a PAC12 Championship.  A possible replacement for Sumlin, if he were to leave, is on the Houston staff, in Coach Jason Phillips, the Offensive Coordinator.  He has been on the staff for eight years and is an alumnus.

As for Texas A&M, well they need help!  They are headed to the SEC next season and need a quick makeover.  I see them looking for an experienced coach, with SEC ties.  There's Houston Nutt, but he was just let go from Mississippi, there is also Terry and Tommy Bowden, and maybe Tommy Tuberville from Texas Tech, but my first choice is another young coach, Manny Diaz, UT's Defensive Coordinator.  He has built solid defenses wherever he has been, Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee, and NC State.  TAMU will need a solid defense to compete in the SEC to stay up with Alabama and LSU.
