The BCS

The FBS system is flawed!  We have allowed the money to run college football instead of football controlling the money and what truly matters, having a clear cut champion.  With a playoff system in place, there will be more excitement as the season comes to a close than resigning to the fact your team will not have a chance at a national title.

This season, FBS has five one loss teams, and only one of them gets another chance?  If that is the case then why play an entire season?  What team's goal at the beginning of the season was to be invited to a bowl game that cannot even sellout or has no baring on the national title?   The experts are saying that the regular season is a playoff, so if  a team loses, in September, to usually a non-conference foe, they are out and the season is over.  The way the system is setup their hopes are dashed, unless your team is deemed a member of an elite conference.  Who says Boise State cannot beat Alabama?  We didn't think they had a chance against OU a few years ago, and they won.  Utah beat Alabama here recently in a bowl game, and last year TCU beat Wisconsin.

We are allowing computers, writers, and coaches, who do not even pay attention for the most part, to other teams, to decide.  College football fans have lost sight of the true meaning of winning, and have come to accept mediocrity and the status quo.  We support far too many inconsequential bowls with mediocre participants that most fans do not even care about, except the parents of players, and maybe the student body.

It is time to stand up and demand a change!  The fans should contact their university/college presidents/chancellors and conference commissioners let them know we demand change.  If bowl games are truly necessary, then incorporate them into a playoff system.  I back a system. that allows ALL conference winners in the FBS, which is currently 11, plus the top 5 BCS ranked non-conference winning teams.  The remaining bowl games get those teams who qualify for a bowl.  By the way, why do we reward a .500 team any way?

Yes, I know the SEC teams are much stronger than the Sunbelt or the MAC teams, but they still deserve to have a chance at the title.  We have playoffs in every other sport, at every other college level, yet we just accept this.  Times have changed, the system must change.  This is not acceptable as it stands right now.

At the very least, the top 16 BCS rated teams should be in a playoff senario.  Do not tell me that the players would miss too much school or finals, etc.  Division I basketball has the same situation and they even play on Thursday and Friday in March, not just Saturdays.  College presidents and chancellors clearly do not mind basketball players' time lost in the class room.

Contact your school today, demand a new plan.  Let's start a new era!!!!
